Sheriff Merchant was awarded the Kansas Association Counties’ “2015 County Official of the Year” award on November 4th, 2015. Sheriff Merchant was given the honor of selecting a deserving Horton high School senior to receive the $500.00 scholarship on behalf of the Kansas Association of Counties as part of his award.

Sheriff Merchant said, “It was a difficult task to choose only one senior from the list of students who applied for the scholarship. It was a true honor to be able to present this scholarship on behalf of the Kansas Association of Counties as the recipient of their prestigious County Official of the Year award.” “This scholarship will assist Conner as he seeks his Behavioral psychology degree from the University of Kansas this fall.”
