2013 was a busy year for the Brown County Sheriffs office—this was the first full year of having officers on staff 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This has been done with limited staffing and with much dedication by our officers.
As you can see from the statistics, DUI’s and Narcotic arrests have almost doubled within the past year from the previous year. There has also been an increase in Burglary / Thefts reported and I feel we are very fortunate to have such a small increase as other areas within the state and surrounding states have had larger increases.
Our officers have been on routine patrol and have not only prevented some of these crimes, but have caught some of the suspects in the act and some have been arrested on other charges and later we have discovered burglary tools in their vehicle or on their person. These crimes are the hardest to solve as the suspects usually sneak in to remote areas or when people are not home to commit the acts and leave very few clues. However, with the aid of surveillance cameras we have been able to hold some suspects accountable and we have had great cooperation from property owners who have purchased TRAIL CAMERAS and from images they have caught on their devices, we have made cases against these thieves.
With the changing times also comes new and different ideas in technology. I feel it is important to keep up with these changes so we can provide a better service to the citizens of Brown County. Without keeping up with the times it does leave us somewhat vulnerable if we have to rely on other agencies to do our work for us. By having the ability to process our own information/evidence etc. in house— we are able to provide much quicker accountability to those who choose to break the law and provide the victims with a greater sense of security and closure.
We have also had an increase in CINC cases and have had parents, caregiver and the public thank us for providing proper and needed intervention on behalf of children.
There was also an increase in Registered Offender Violations, the State requires that any offender living or working in Brown County not only register here but abide by the Rules and Regulations set forth by the state. At any time when the Offender does not comply with the Rules and Regulations it is a level 6 Felony and we will arrest at once.
I feel we are very fortunate to have the group of dedicated men and women who work at the Sheriffs Office and we appreciate the cooperation we have with the public!!!!
