I would like to make residents aware of another scam circulating our county. Residents are being called by someone representing themselves as BROWN COUNTY COURT SUMMONS SERVICES telling residents they have legal papers that will be served on them. Most have simply hung up on the callers but several residents reported that they were instructed to make payment over the phone in order to avoid the summons.
At this time no one has reported they have been made a victim of this scam. I spoke with the Clerk of the District Court in Brown County and made them aware of this scam and they wanted me to assure people that their office would never conduct business in this manner.
If you feel you have been made a victim of this or any other type of scam, please notify your local law enforcement at once.
