In the early morning hours of 8-7-2015 a Brown County Sheriff Deputy initiated a vehicle stop in the location of Oregon Street and Hopi near Hiawatha. During the initial stop, the driver decided to leave and led officers on a vehicle chase which lasted approximately 20 minutes.

The 2002 white Chevrolet Blazer driven by Brooklyn St. Clair 25 of Smith Center, Kansas fled the initial traffic stop scene and traveled east down Oregon Street, went south on US 73 Hwy to 180th and circled back to US 73 Hwy. A Brown County Deputy deployed stop sticks at US 73 HWY and Iowa Street in Hiawatha, which deflated 3 out of the 4 tires on the Blazer.

The vehicle was finally stopped at US 73 HWY in the vicinity of 270th where it attempted to turn around in the highway which gave deputies the opportunity to box in the vehicle causing it to come to a stop and the driver was then apprehended.

No injuries were sustained and no damages to any county vehicles or other law enforcement vehicles involved in the pursuit. St. Clair was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI, Flee to Elude, Transport Open Container, Reckless Driving, DUI Test Refusal.

It was later determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from Smith Center, Kansas earlier this same morning so St. Clair was additionally charged with Possession of Stolen Property. Possible other charges pending.
